Mogherini: The Presidency's role is crucial in reducing political tensions in BiH

(Patria) - Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with the three-member Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović, during their first joint visit abroad since the Presidency was inaugurated in November last year.

In response to their joint message of commitment to the country's path towards the European Union, the High Representative welcomed their determination to work together, emphasizing that unity in their actions will be for the benefit of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all its citizens. In this regard, the Presidency's role will be crucial in reducing political tensions and promoting reconciliation.

The High Representative and the members of the Presidency agreed on the importance of forming the country's Council of Ministers and all entity governments without delay, so that they can address the numerous challenges ahead. These include, among other things, the rule of law, including electoral reform, the implementation of Constitutional Court decisions and strengthening the judiciary, as well as continuing socio-economic reforms.

At the same time, Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to submit all answers to the Questionnaire as soon as possible so that the European Commission can finalize the Opinion on the country's application for EU membership.

Federica Mogherini stressed the commitment to the country's EU perspective and emphasized that she wants to see lasting progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkan region towards the EU by the end of the year.
