Mogherini in Sarajevo on Monday

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, February 23, at a time when preparations are underway in the country for progress in the European integration process, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

Following the initiative of the European Union, with the aim of ensuring new momentum in the European integration process of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and as highlighted in the conclusions of the Council of Foreign Affairs from December 2014, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has agreed on an irrevocable statement on the obligation to implement reforms within the framework of the accession process to the European Union. The statement was signed by the leaders of all 14 political parties represented in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it will be processed in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, February 23.

During the visit, High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Mogherini will meet with members of the Presidency of BiH and the leadership of both houses of the BiH Parliament. Afterwards, at the invitation of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, participation and address at a joint session of both houses of Parliament is planned. High Representative and Vice-President Mogherini will meet with the presidents of the entities, Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, as well as the candidate for the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and the two entity prime ministers.

Commenting ahead of this visit, High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Mogherini stated:

- Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially its citizens, deserve to move closer to the European Union and all the benefits that this process brings. Reforms related to the European Union will help address the fragile socio-economic situation in the country and encourage job creation and investment. Good progress has been made so far in drafting a written commitment within the framework of approaching the European Union. Adoption in Parliament would enable the European Union to decide on the full entry into force of the Stabilization and Association Agreement of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
