Mogherini and Hahn spoke with Western Balkan leaders: EU enlargement continues

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn held a meeting with leaders from the Western Balkans on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, in order to advance the work on the EU integration path of the entire region.

- We have reconfirmed the European Union's unequivocal support for the enlargement perspective for the Western Balkans, which was recently expressed at the European Council level as well as by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, in his annual State of the Union Address earlier this month. In line with this commitment, the European Union is intensifying its support to all partners to achieve realistic goals, so that their progress becomes irreversible by the end of our mandate.

We are pleased that the leaders - President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Čović, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, and Prime Minister of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Zoran Zaev - have confirmed their commitment to intensified work on reforms, particularly in the areas of justice, rule of law and fundamental rights, as well as regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations, in order to preserve and utilize this positive momentum.
