Numerous casualties as truck plows into Berlin Christmas market

At least nine people have been killed and more than 50 injured when a truck plowed into a crowd gathered at a Christmas market in Berlin, local media report, citing police sources.

Berliner Zeitung and Berliner Morgenpost report that the incident occurred in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Church on Monday evening.

A video posted on Morgenpost's Facebook page shows overturned tables and benches.

Media add that it is not yet known whether this was an accident or some kind of attack on the market.

German media report that police have said they will treat the incident as an attack.

Police have arrested one person suspected of driving the truck, which was registered in Poland. Other details have not been released.
