Residents of Donja Jablanica dissatisfied with the pace of reconstruction after floods

(Patria) - After the catastrophic floods that hit Donja Jablanica on October 4 this year, in which 19 people lost their lives, the lives of residents are slowly returning to normal. However, residents are dissatisfied with the pace of reconstruction of their homes, and they particularly complain that no one from the authorities has yet taken any action regarding the removal of material that was stored near the railway station warehouse during the clearing of the terrain, BHT reports.

Those whose houses are above the railway station say that there used to be a children's playground right next to the station, which is now covered with waste emitting an unpleasant odor, and they are concerned because they believe this could have a negative impact on their health.

Numerous residents dissatisfied with the infrastructure in this area held a meeting with the mayor of Donja Jablanica and presented their demands.

They are asking to be told when the safety assessment of the quarry will be carried out, to be informed whether it is possible for the remaining stone in the quarry and the slope to shift, and when the removal of the material stored near the railway station warehouse will be organized.

"Will we create living conditions here? We expect the relevant services to create conditions for a normal life for us," says resident Samir Maslo.

Damir Šabanović, the mayor of Jablanica Municipality, emphasizes that they do not have the capacity to discuss the space and its stability.

"We need a report from the Federal Institute of Geology," says Šabanović.

In Donja Jablanica, nothing is being done yet on the reconstruction of the railway line, even though the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina previously announced that its reconstruction would be completed in two or three months. As the Minister of Transport and Communications said, the best indicator of how alarming the situation is is a letter from a group of businessmen offering to pay for the reconstruction themselves.

Let us recall that the residents of Donja Jablanica did not receive, as they said, information on the questions they raised at last night's meeting with the mayor. The main report they are waiting for is the report from the Federal Institute of Geology, and they are also demanding accelerated work by the Commission for Damage Assessment and the Commission for Safety Assessment, which will come to Donja Jablanica, as well as a thematic session of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They hope it will be held by next Wednesday, because if it does not happen, they have announced a road blockade.
