MIZ Stolac on the continuation of construction work on the 'Radimlja' cemetery: We are finally on the way to burying our deceased with dignity

(Patria) - The Islamic Community Council (MIZ) Stolac informed the public that yesterday it continued the construction work on the 'Radimlja' cemetery, which began just over a month ago.

"After a decade-long and arduous process of resolving the issue of a new cemetery in the urban area of the Council, i.e., in the Stolac community, all formal and legal conditions for the establishment of a new cemetery were finally met last year.

After the commencement of work, the Mayor of Stolac, Stjepan Bošković, suddenly issued a Decision to revoke the building permit, which is not yet legally binding, as the Stolac Council filed an appeal with the competent institution within the legal deadline.

In addition to the engaged construction company, a large number of community members, people from Stolac, joined the work today, supporting the completion of the new cemetery project, the 'Radimlja' cemetery, with their commitment," stated MIZ Stolac in a statement last night.

They add that it is often said that Stolac is a city of bridges, because although Bregava is a small river, it is spanned by several bridges, many of which are old and very interesting and fascinating in their construction.

"However, this is an opportunity to mention that, in the not-so-distant past, in the period after World War II, Stolac had several large cemeteries within the urban area, which were ruthlessly demolished by the then socialist authorities, and a school, a market, a bus station, and silos were built on those sites.

After so many years, today, we are finally on the way to burying our deceased with dignity in our graves. It seems that every generation fights its own cemetery battles.

While many have come forward to contribute to the construction site itself, a large number of friends of Stolac are sending messages of support from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora. Thank you all for every form of support.

This need, so ordinary and so inherent to human existence, sometimes seems so unusual and great that it evokes admiration in the ordinary person; for believers in Stolac and Herzegovina, it is for a reason," said MIZ Stolac.
