MIZ Mostar condemns attack on minor in Kočine neighborhood on his way to mosque: We must all combat such phenomena

(Patria) - The Islamic Community Council of Mostar strongly condemns the brutal attack on a minor that occurred in the Kočine neighborhood of Mostar. As reported by the media, it was an extremely brutal and cold-blooded attack witnessed by other minors, which should seriously concern the entire society.

"Although numerous institutions, especially educational institutions, are involved in activities to prevent and raise awareness about peer violence, it is clear that it is the responsibility of all of us to act together in combating such phenomena."

The Chief Imam of the Islamic Community Council of Mostar, Mr. Dino-ef. Maksumić, called on all competent institutions, especially parents, to make maximum effort in raising their children, emphasizing that home upbringing has no alternative.

"Talking to children about peer violence, its destructiveness, and the consequences it carries must be a constant part of the upbringing process," the statement reads.

It was also emphasized that all violence is unacceptable and that there should be no difference in condemning it, regardless of where and to whom it happened. The fact that this event occurred during the month of Ramadan, a month of mutual mercy, understanding, and care for others, is particularly concerning. According to media reports, the attacked minor was on his way to the mosque to perform the tarawih prayer, a special Ramadan prayer.

The Islamic Community Council of Mostar calls on the competent authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to shed light on all circumstances of this case as soon as possible and to take measures provided by law, in order to respond to the justified concern of parents, children, and all citizens.

The minor sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized. The attack occurred on March 2nd.
