(Patria) - The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and member of the wartime Presidency, Miro Lazović, joined the Democratic Front (DF) today.
In an interview with the News Agency Patria (NAP), Lazović reveals what specifically prompted him to take such a political step, and then reflects on the past year and what he expects from 2024.
- In this situation, the DF is the only choice where I can satisfy my political views and ideas, which are a whole, secular, civic state of Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout its territory. And that is something that the DF has principledly advocated for all these years - said Lazović.
He emphasizes that all judgments of the European Court of Human Rights are a mechanism that should lead to a state of full human rights and freedoms throughout its territory.
- That is my idea, which it was in 1992, it is the idea that guided me on my political path. And the DF advocates for that idea thoroughly and principledly. And after all, the DF is a social democratic party, and that is also my idea. We were together on that idea once, and we are continuing that path - points out Lazović.
Regardless of the fact that, as he says, that idea is attacked from both within and without, he is convinced that it is worth fighting for.
- I am convinced that BiH can only be safe and build its future as a civic state of full human rights and freedoms. And all other options of division and secession, which some policies announce, lead Bosnia and Herzegovina to disappearance.
That is why I joined the DF, because I believe that, regardless of how much that idea is attacked from both within and without, it is worth fighting for, and that we should persevere with all political means in implementing the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights from Strasbourg - stated Lazović.
We asked him if he intends to run as a DF candidate in the Local Elections 2024 or the General Elections 2026.
- I am not thinking about that at all, nor is it an ambition of mine. I have a political track record, my own path, and what I have achieved in the past period is enough for me.
I do not intend to run in the Local Elections, nor to be on the lists, but I want to help all DF members who will be on those lists with my experience and knowledge - added Lazović.
He says that the year coming to an end, like all previous ones, concludes with numerous political turbulences, with greater or lesser intensity.
- We are ending the year with complete uncertainty about what 2024 will bring us. Brussels and the processes set by the European Parliament before us have been partially achieved.
Those doors for opening negotiations with BiH have been slightly ajar, and that is like some hope that keeps us afloat. And what will happen by March remains to be seen.
In any case, I do not think that the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina can be satisfied with this year, neither economically nor in terms of its political stability.
Doubts, uncertainty, and fears that lie ahead for Bosnia and Herzegovina continue. The problems that spill over into BiH from the region are something that complicates this political scene. The political struggles of the RS with state institutions will continue.
Major issues such as the Election Law and the Constitutional Court are being opened, and it seems to me that the fate of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be decided on them in the coming year.
I hope that in the end, the forces advocating for a multi-ethnic state of full human freedoms and rights throughout its territory will prevail - concludes Lazović in an interview with NAP.
