Peaceful gathering of journalists in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Journalists from several newsrooms in Bosnia and Herzegovina will hold a peaceful gathering in Sarajevo today, expressing protest after increasingly frequent pressures on media workers in the country, reports the Patria News Agency. The gathering, which begins at 12:00 PM, has been announced to the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton.

Journalists in BiH decided to hold a peaceful gathering after an attack on the editor of the Radio Sarajevo portal on Friday evening, when two men, posing as fans of FK Sarajevo, forced him to delete a text he had published that day about a convicted FK Sarajevo fan who is in prison in Belarus. The men then demanded that the portal editor call other newsrooms to delete the disputed text, accompanied by constant threats. The attackers, who are charged with endangering security and unlawful deprivation of liberty, were released to defend themselves from freedom with measures prohibiting them from approaching the journalist and the Radio Sarajevo newsroom.

Today, journalists will also express support for journalist Gordana Katana from Banja Luka, who has been under strong pressure due to the views she expressed about some ruling politicians on her private Facebook profile.

This is the second protest by journalists in Sarajevo in the past year, after journalists protested in August last year over an attack on colleague Vladimir Kovačević from Banja Luka's BN Television.

Other cases of violations of journalists' rights in BiH have also been recorded.

Journalists will gather in front of the headquarters of FK Sarajevo in Titova Street in Sarajevo at 12:00 PM, from where they will head to the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, which is processing the case of the attack on the Radio Sarajevo journalist, and then to the State Parliament, demanding greater protection for media workers.
