Mirko Pejanović: Let's love and protect our country

On the occasion of March 1st, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the "Izvor nade" Foundation organized an open interactive lecture by Prof. Dr. Mirko Pejanović, professor emeritus and associate member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria.

In a very interesting lecture held at the premises of the "Izvor nade" Student Dormitory, Prof. Dr. Pejanović spoke on the topic "Development of BiH Statehood in the 20th and 21st Centuries".

He congratulated the attendees on March 1st, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and reminded the audience of some of the most important moments regarding the independence and statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly emphasizing the significance of ZAVNOBIH.

"ZAVNOBIH was the formula that decided that the people living in BiH would decide their own destiny. After that, the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina was formed, consisting of prominent people from different nations. BiH became a place of basic industry, and later manufacturing, universities and clinical centers were founded. This built the capacities of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Pejanović and added:

"The period of 1992 is known to most of us. Citizens were aware of independence at that time, and out of 64 percent of citizens who participated in the referendum, 99 percent voted for an independent Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this way, they gave full legitimacy to the decision to hold the referendum. During May, specifically on May 22nd, Bosnia and Herzegovina was recognized by the UN, making our country a subject of international law. Thus, we took on the obligation to organize BiH according to the highest international standards."

"This is our country, and we should believe in this country. We are part of Europe, and that is our cultural framework. Let's love and protect our country," Prof. Dr. Pejanović told the audience, emphasizing that students should especially prepare for the European or global market, as they will earn their salaries and pensions in such a market, along with knowledge of IT technologies and foreign languages.  

When asked to comment on the latest developments regarding the decision to initiate a review of the verdict against Serbia, Pejanović stated that peace in our country is internationalized.

"The pursuit of justice is also internationalized. If the International Court has made a verdict and left the possibility for a request for review to be submitted, that right can be exercised. The problem is that nationalists try to make themselves even more nationalistic with every move," said Prof. Dr. Pejanović.

Tarik Agetović, director of the "Izvor nade" Foundation, thanked Prof. Pejanović at the end of the lecture and presented him with a handicraft made by the Foundation's female students. Accompanied by Director Agetović and members of the Management Board, Prof. Pejanović toured the "Izvor nade" Student Dormitory and expressed satisfaction with what he saw, stating that one should persevere on the path that provides young people with quality educational conditions.
