EU Ministers to Discuss Refugees Again Today

 

Foreign ministers of EU member states will meet in Brussels today to discuss the migrant issue once again, as well as the situation in Syria and Libya, reports the Patria news agency.

The meeting will, as announced from Brussels, elaborate on the conclusions adopted on October 8 by the ministers of interior and justice in Luxembourg regarding a common policy for resolving the migrant crisis, which includes strengthening the control of external European borders and more efficient deportation of individuals whose asylum applications have been rejected.

Ministers of the 28 member states will also consider the results of the high-level political meeting with their counterparts from the Western Balkans, also held on October 8 in Luxembourg, which was attended by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić and Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović.

A joint declaration on strengthening regional cooperation was adopted at that meeting to enhance capacities for receiving and registering migrants attempting to enter the EU via the Western Balkans, in coordination with the EU.

Foreign ministers will also discuss efforts for a political solution to the conflict in Syria and the situation in Libya, where intensive negotiations are underway between opposing factions on forming a unity government, reports Tanjug.

The meeting is also intended to prepare the ground for the summit of EU heads of state and government, which will be held on Wednesday.
