Ministry: 1.2 million KM needed to replace boiler room in Dom Bjelave, fault being repaired, heating on mazut secured

(Patria) - The Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth and the Government of Sarajevo Canton, in cooperation with the management of the Student Centre - Dom Bjelave, have taken urgent measures for safety as well as continuous supply of heating and hot water to students, after a fault and short-term gas leak occurred in the boiler room of the Student Dormitory Bjelave.

After KJKP "Sarajevogas" confirmed safety conditions, heating and hot water were turned on this morning via an alternative source - mazut, thus preventing students from being left without basic services, the Ministry explained.

After teams from KJKP "Sarajevogas" determined that the problem was a safety valve, the authorised company BATISTUTI d.o.o., with which the Student Centre has a maintenance contract, went to the site.

"The replacement of the safety valve in the boiler room, due to whose fault the gas leak occurred, is currently underway. After the valve is replaced and tested, teams from Sarajevogas will go to the site again, put the gas into use and turn off the heating on mazut," it was stated.

The Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton emphasises that they have already taken steps towards a permanent solution to the problem of the outdated boiler room.

In the response to the Draft Budget for the next year, which was sent to the Ministry of Finance of Sarajevo Canton, it was requested that, in addition to the regular amount of co-financing for the Student Centre, an additional 1,200,000 KM be secured for the complete replacement of the boiler room, according to the submitted project of the Student Centre.

The Ministry expects that the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton will support this key budget allocation, with the aim of permanently solving the problem and improving living conditions for all students, and it continuously works on support from representatives for this proposal.
