KS Ministry of Transport Misled Sarajevans, Works at Skenderija Continue Today, Traffic Jams and Stopped Trams

(Patria) - Traffic on the main road at Skenderija in Sarajevo was not opened this morning, although the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton announced that the works would be completed over the weekend, specifically on Sunday.

“During the weekend, traffic changes due to works at Skenderija, which are ending on Sunday and will continue after the SFF. During the weekend, asphalt paving of two lanes and sidewalks will be carried out on the section of the main city road, from Skenderija to the junction with Radićeva Street. Traffic will not be allowed on this section during the weekend, and alternative routes and detours will be provided. Works on this road will be completed this weekend and will continue after the Sarajevo Film Festival. The works will be completed on Sunday, and traffic will be opened on Monday,” stated, among other things, the competent ministry.

However, Monday has dawned, but the works are still ongoing. As reported by our readers, tram traffic is still suspended on this part of the main road at Skenderija. According to them, the entire city center is without tram traffic, as trams, as has been the case in previous days during the works, are turning around at the Skenderija depot and returning towards Ilidža, so the next stop is Marijin Dvor.

Most of them were waiting at the Skenderija station this morning, as it was announced that the works would be completed. However, seeing the workers on the road and the police redirecting traffic, it soon became clear that the works were still ongoing.

Although it is not unknown that even the smallest events in Sarajevo cause major traffic jams, this happened again this morning as traffic on this section is difficult and slow, and a large number of citizens are heading to work and other obligations.

Let us remind you, the works on the main road in Sarajevo started a few days ago. As already mentioned at the beginning of the text in the ministry's statement, they will be suspended during the SFF, after which they will continue.

The road is generally in poor condition and was last renovated in 2006. However, the question arises whether the works were started at the right time – in the summer and in the middle of the tourist season?
