Minister Osmanović in Goražde: Make a distinction between heroes and criminals

(Patria) - With a series of cultural and sports events, September 18, the Day of the First Liberation during the aggression, the Day of the Bosni Podrinje Canton and the City of Goražde, was marked in Goražde. This city today proudly bears the epithet of a heroic city, as it is the only BiH city on the Drina that managed to defend itself during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Flowers were first laid at the Central Memorial, where tribute was paid to the martyrs and fallen defenders, and at the Memorial to the murdered children of Goražde in the period 1992-1995.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, paid tribute today in Goražde and attended the ceremonial academy on the occasion of this historically important date.

„These days, unfortunately, we are witnessing a kind of revisionism of history, through an orchestrated attack on the city of heroes, in which the aggressor is trying to be equated with the victim. They are attacking our heroes, filing indictments against people who defended their very lives and their homes, while at the same time the families of those killed in this city are still waiting for justice. I note that no one has yet been prosecuted for the crimes in Goražde, a United Nations protected zone, which is another blow by the judiciary to Bosniaks. More than ever, we need unity, and heroic deeds, as 31 years ago, when the last remaining city on the Drina was liberated, which was the largest free territory in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time. I want to believe that the suffering and persecution of our people have ended, and that a distinction will finally be made between the heroes we know, and convicted war criminals, whom the other side remembers“, said Minister Osmanović.

In addition to Minister Osmanović, Goražde was visited today by, among others, the member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović, and numerous dignitaries from the political and religious life of BiH.

Let us remind you, exactly 31 years ago, the city on the Drina was liberated thanks to the military operations „Krug“ and „Drina“. It was the greatest success of the Army of RBiH in the first year of the war, and more than 600 square kilometers of besieged territory were liberated. At that time, Goražde received the epithet of a heroic city. Also, according to official data, 64 fighters were killed in these operations.
