Minister Mušija visited "Edhem Mulabdić" Elementary School: Thorough renovation funded by KfW loan to begin in spring

(Patria) - Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Zenica-Doboj Canton Mirza Mušija, together with the President of the Independent Union of Trade Unions of BiH Selvedin Šatorović, visited "Edhem Mulabdić" Elementary School in Zenica, which is preparing for a thorough renovation as part of a project financed through the German Development Bank (KfW).

- After a lengthy procedure, the tender is expected to be announced at the end of January 2025. Until then, this ministry will provide intervention assistance for the renovation of the restrooms, which have long been dilapidated and pose a danger to the safe stay of students and school staff - announced Minister Mušija.

Principal Almir Bašić informed Minister Mušija about the condition of the school and thanked the Government and the relevant ministry for their understanding and for including this school in the German KfW project.



A total of eight schools in this canton are included in the project. In addition to "Edhem Mulabdić" Elementary School, a thorough reconstruction, which includes thermal insulation, fuel replacement, and internal reconstruction, will be carried out in two more schools in Zenica - "Alija Nametak" Elementary School and "Hamza Humo" Elementary School, four schools in Zavidovići - "Poljice" Primary School, "Brezik" Primary School, "Ribnica" Primary School and the First Elementary School, and "Termoelektrana" Primary School in Kakanj.

The arrangement with KfW includes 50 percent grant funds, while the remaining 50 percent is an interest-free loan to be repaid from energy savings. The focus is on phasing out fuels that pollute the environment, and most facilities will switch to heating with heat pumps, while schools where this is not possible will switch to heating with pellet boilers.
