Minister Hurtić at the commemoration of the anniversary of the Living Bonfire: This place testifies to the unspeakable pain and suffering of innocent people

(Patria) - Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Sevlid Hurtić attended today the commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the horrific crime committed against Bosniak civilians in Pionirska Street in Višegrad, known as the "Living Bonfire".

In this crime, which occurred in June 1992, more than 70 civilians, mostly women, children, and the elderly, were burned alive, representing one of the most monstrous crimes committed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Hurtić laid flowers in front of the crime scene and paid tribute to the innocent victims.



He also visited the "Living Bonfire" memorial and the memorial rooms that bear witness to the crime, where he once again emphasized the importance of remembrance, justice, and institutional support for the victims' families.

- This place testifies to the unspeakable pain and suffering of innocent people. It is our duty not only to remember but to continuously work on strengthening the culture of remembrance, fighting against the denial of crimes, and providing support to the victims' families. The state must remain committed to preserving truth and justice - Hurtić stated.

The Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of BiH continues to be committed to protecting the rights of war crime victims, preserving collective memory, and creating conditions for the dignified return and life of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
