Migrant Crisis: BiH Council of Ministers to Request Engagement of BiH Armed Forces

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The BiH Council of Ministers considered the Information of the Ministry of Security on the situation in the field of migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina in relation to the increased inflow of migrants to BiH.
The BiH Council of Ministers, in its report on the migrant situation, will request support from the BiH Presidency for the engagement of engineering units of the Armed Forces of BiH, as well as a larger number of police officers from all Ministries of Internal Affairs in BiH, in order to protect the eastern border of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the period from March 26 to April 1, 2019, 482 illegal migrants were reported to the Service for Foreigners' Affairs. In the same period, 459 individuals expressed their intention to apply for asylum, and five individuals submitted an asylum application.

According to the Information, 3,805 illegal migrants were reported to the Service for Foreigners' Affairs from January 1 to April 1, 2019. In this period, 3,446 individuals expressed their intention to apply for asylum, and 77 submitted an asylum application.

The majority of migrants are from Pakistan (29.5 percent), Syria (11.9 percent), Iraq (11.8 percent), Algeria (10.7 percent), and Morocco (8.9 percent).
