Migration as a factor of further destabilisation of Bosnia and Herzegovina

I have written about the constant influx of migrants into Bosnia and Herzegovina on several occasions in e-media, seeing in that fact a very important factor of further destabilisation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is otherwise unstable, on the very brink of survival. In doing so, I have always – as now – emphasised that I have empathy, truly, for the migrants who, for the most part, are driven by hardship from their homelands into the world, into uncertainty.

The latest events (at the beginning of June 2019) in Velika Kladuša and Bihać show how right I was when I viewed the influx of migrants into a country like Bosnia and Herzegovina and their DETAINING AT THE BORDER of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the EU as a very serious factor of destabilisation and thus of the survival of Bosnia and Herzegovina, given that it is otherwise in a very severe crisis. However, this problem has generally not been given adequate attention in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As strange as it may sound, it must be said that the lack of an appropriate response in Bosnia and Herzegovina to this acute problem could have been expected, since Bosnia and Herzegovina is Dayton-constructed in such a way that centrifugal forces operate unhindered within it, but in connection with this, one must particularly underline that constant negative determination of the international community, whatever it may mean, including the EU, even the EU especially.

We all know, and even the international factors that should act in favour of the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina admit it, that it is, as constantly emphasised, a non-functional country, and non-functional in the most dangerous way: since the 1990s to this day, it has been torn apart by nationalisms, even clero-nationalisms, various variants of fascism; it is a European (!) country that was crisscrossed in the 20th century (!!) with mass graves, concentration camps, genocide, etc. The EU was largely complicit in all of this and remains an accomplice today because it takes no effective action for the security and civic rehabilitation of a country on its own soil. This shortsightedness is incredible because it fosters the growth of factors of instability right under its own heart.

After almost a quarter of a century, Bosnia and Herzegovina has found itself under a new and particularly vicious attack, namely mass migration into it. As I said, the EU is consistent in its negative attitude towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, for which it will one day pay the price itself, so instead of helping Bosnia and Herzegovina in such a way AS TO STOP THE INFLUX OF REFUGEES INTO Bosnia and Herzegovina, it has firmly closed its border in Bosanska Krajina, considering it a smart solution for migrants to accumulate there. In doing so, they should recall, in the given context, their own assertion and knowledge that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a non-functional state, legally and politically completely unregulated, and that such an influx of refugees and their persistent detention in such a country will be disastrous for it. Moreover, European bureaucrats, with extreme hypocrisy, political dishonesty and security risks – and imagine! – send Bosnia and Herzegovina some millions – as if that solves the problem, while things are quite the opposite: with European millions, facilities for the accommodation of migrants will be built; this will be an encouragement for new waves of newcomers, and it is certain – how can they not admit it?! – that tens of thousands of young people OVER A LONG PERIOD in „reception centres“ will become not only socially but also psychologically very problematic, aggressive, as they have been just these days in Bosanska Krajina. Thus the problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina festers, grows. And then they are surprised, condemn that – finally! – the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina have banned the activities of foreign volunteers who come here without papers, illegally (can they do that in their own countries?!) to fake (excuse the expression) humanity here in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This hypocrisy knows no bounds.
