Al-Qaeda militants are planning large-scale attacks in the West, the director of MI5, Britain's intelligence service, said on Thursday, reports the Patria News Agency.
Speaking at MI5 headquarters in London, a day after the attack on the magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, Andrew Parker said there is a high risk of attacks by fighters returning from Syria.
- We know, for example, that a group of fanatical Al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria is planning large-scale attacks in the West - he said, adding that there is a high probability of attacks in Great Britain.
Their targets, according to Parker, are the transport system and "iconic targets".
