Meteorological conditions blamed for AirAsia plane crash

Very bad meteorological conditions at high altitude where the AirAsia plane, which crashed into the Java Sea in Indonesia seven days ago, was flying, were the trigger for the accident, the Indonesian meteorological agency announced on Sunday.

The search for bodies and wreckage of the Airbus A320-200 plane, which crashed into the Java Sea on December 28 with 162 passengers and crew members, has entered its second week, and is persistently hampered by unfavorable meteorological conditions. The teams' priority is to find the black boxes, crucial for determining the cause of the plane crash.

Almost non-existent visibility in the sea prevented Indonesian divers on Sunday from reaching a larger object they believe to be part of the plane. So far, four parts have been found, and this fifth one, located on Sunday, measures about ten meters by one meter. Thirty-one bodies have been recovered from the sea so far.
