Metacritic names 'Quo Vadis, Aida?' best film of 2021

(Patria) - The website Metacritic has named the film "Quo Vadis, Aida?" by Bosnian-Herzegovinian director Jasmila Žbanić the best film of 2021.

Metacritic states that this year's best film is not easy to watch. They recall that it was nominated for an Oscar for Best International Feature Film a year ago. Quo Vadis, Aida? is, they further state, a BiH war drama that first began earning praise when it debuted at the Venice International Film Festival in 2000.

They described it as a harrowing film by BiH director Jasmila Žbanić.

"As a fictionalized depiction of what has been described as the worst European genocide of the post-war era, Quo Vadis, Aida? is harrowing and vital in its bitter grief. As a study of political and diplomatic inertia in the face of contemporary global human tragedies, it could not be more urgent," stated Christopher Machell, CineVue.

Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games, and previously books.

"Quo Vadis, Aida?" was named best film at the 34th European Film Awards (EFA). Jasmila Žbanić won the award for best director, and Jasna Đuričić, an actress from Novi Sad, received the EFA award for best actress in 2021, writes N1.

The 1995 Srebrenica genocide is the focus of this film. The film "Quo Vadis, Aida?" (translated as "Where Are You Going, Aida?") won several international awards in 2021, and was nominated for an "Oscar" award in the category for best international film.
