Merkel: We are strongly committed to BiH's European path

The President of the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) Branislav Borenović spoke last night with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

- During the conversation about the current political situation in Republika Srpska (RS) and BiH, the German Chancellor confirmed to Borenović her strong commitment to BiH's European path, the PDP announced.

Chancellor Merkel emphasized that all serious, reasonable, and responsible parties in BiH, who are ready to create better and higher quality relations within BiH, will have her support on that path.

The President of PDP conveyed to the German Chancellor the assurance that in RS and BiH, PDP has sincere friends and political partners who are committed to working diligently, creating better relations within BiH, and bringing RS and BiH closer to the European Union.

He emphasized that PDP is a party that cherishes European values and insists on internal agreement as a key prerequisite for calming tensions and moving forward.

The meeting between Merkel and Borenović took place during the final pre-election rally of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in the city of Passau ahead of Sunday's parliamentary elections.

Participation in that rally and the meeting with Chancellor Merkel is a result of the long-term cooperation that PDP has with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) and center-right parties from Germany. This is, as stated in the announcement, confirmation that PDP was and remains part of the large European family of political parties.

Polls show that Angela Merkel's party and their coalition partner CSU have the greatest chance of winning in Sunday's elections on September 24. It is expected, as stated, that after the federal elections they will form a government together and that Chancellor Merkel will renew her mandate and continue to lead Germany in the coming period.

This is the second meeting between PDP President Branislav Borenović and Chancellor Angela Merkel. The first meeting was at the end of last year, during the congress of the Christian Democratic Union in Essen.

During his stay in Germany, Borenović also spoke with current deputies and this year's candidates for the federal parliament from Passau and other federal parliament members.

The meetings were also attended by PDP's international secretary Saša Milanović and the vice-president of the PDP's Banja Luka city board, Draško Stanivuković.
