Merkel congratulates Kolinda on election as president

German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Kolinda Grabar Kitarović on her election as President of the Republic of Croatia, saying she looks forward to future cooperation with her, reports the Patria news agency.

-Our countries are very closely and friendly connected as partners in the European Union and NATO. Together we believe in the importance of the European integration process," wrote the German Chancellor in her congratulatory message to the elected Croatian president, reminding that Grabar Kitarović herself persistently advocated for Croatia's accession to the European Union.

-Furthermore, it is in our common interest to support the Western Balkan countries in their Euro-Atlantic integrations," wrote Merkel, saying she looks forward to a "trustful" cooperation with the Croatian president.
