Merhamet helps, Service for Foreigners' Affairs warns citizens to report refugees

SARAJEVO, (Patria) -HO „Merhamet“ MDD and its organizational units širom BiH are monitoring the situation related to the new migrant wave passing through our country towards European states, it was announced.

The President of HO „Merhamet“ MDD Hajrudin Šahić emphasizes that migrants are reporting to the organizational units of this humanitarian organization, primarily the basic committees of „Merhamet“, for assistance in food, clothing, footwear and accommodation.

- „Merhamet“ does not have accommodation capacities, but we have helped all migrants who have so far turned to „Merhamet“ with food, clothing, footwear, blankets and hygiene products.  We will continue to do so in the future - stated Šahić.

According to his words, so far between 350 and 400 migrants have turned to „Merhamet“ for help.

- We have accommodated everyone, in accordance with our capabilities. „Merhamet“ has sufficient capacity to logistically support a larger number of migrants. If the number of migrants in our country increases significantly, we will turn to the relevant institutions for co-financing in the preparation of hot meals for migrants and the procurement of hygiene products.

Incidentally, „Merhamet“ is in constant contact with representatives of the Ministry of Security of BiH and the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees. Employees of „Merhamet“, in accordance with the suggestions of the Ministry of Security of BiH, i.e. the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of BiH, direct migrants to the competent institutions for registration so that they can exercise their rights - said Šahić and reminds that the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of BiH warns that citizens and non-governmental organizations are obliged to report to them or the nearest police station if they notice migrants.
