'Merhamet' awarded 65 annual scholarships to students from socially vulnerable families

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Muslim charitable society "Merhamet" awarded 65 scholarships to primary and secondary school students from socially vulnerable families in various parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The total amount of scholarships awarded was around 38,000 KM. These are scholarships from the "Edah Bećirbegović" Foundation, which "Merhamet" has been awarding since 2012.

The annual scholarship for secondary school students is 750 KM, and for primary school students it is 500 KM. Scholarships are paid out in a lump sum, in full. "Merhamet's" scholarships for this year were awarded to students from socially vulnerable families from Srebrenica, Bosanska Dubica, Prijedor, Bosanski Novi, Kotor-Varoš, Derventa, Doboj, Banja Luka, Bratunac, Zvornik, Višegrad, as well as from Jajce, Glamoč, Žepče, Tomislavgrad, and Stolac.

 "Our wish is to encourage as many institutions, businessmen, and individuals as possible to support this 'Merhamet' activity and enable us to include more children from socially vulnerable families across Bosnia and Herzegovina with our scholarships, primarily children from returnee families in Republika Srpska," stated the president of HO "Merhamet" MDD, Kenan Vrbanjac.

According to the regulations, 70 percent of scholarships from the "Merhamet" "Edah Bećirbegović" Foundation are awarded to students from returnee families in Republika Srpska, and 30 percent to children from socially vulnerable families in the Federation of BiH.

Vrbanjac explained how citizens, companies, and institutions can help fund scholarships for students from socially vulnerable families through the "Merhamet" "Edah Bećirbegović" Foundation.

"They can do this by setting aside one KM from their personal income, by donating two KM to 'Merhamet's' humanitarian number 090 291 069, as well as by sponsoring a student during the school year with a monthly and full annual payment of the scholarship to the account of the 'Edah Bećirbegović' Fund," said Vrbanjac.

Payment can be made at Vakufska banka to the transaction account: 1601120000002395, reference number: 1601020000012488, with the note Scholarships for the "Edah Bećirbegović" Fund.

Otherwise, "Merhamet" founded the "Edah Bećirbegović" Foundation in 2012, and it bears the name of the former president of HO "Merhamet" MDD, the late Edah Bećirbegović.

Numerous "Merhamet" scholarship recipients are now successful academics. Many of them, through the "Merhamet" "Edah Bećirbegović" Foundation, are now helping children from socially vulnerable families.
