Merhamet begins distributing 100 tons of flour to vulnerable population in Gaza

(Patria) - The Muslim charitable society "Merhamet" has begun distributing flour to the vulnerable population of Gaza. This amounts to 100 tons of this staple food, with a total value of 209,000 KM, which was delivered to Gaza in five trucks.

According to the president of "Merhamet", Kenan Vrbanjac, the funds for the purchase of this flour consignment were secured by "Merhamet" in cooperation with the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while one truck, or 20 tons of flour, was financed by three Bosnian businessmen from Tešanj, Travnik, and Mostar, who wished to remain anonymous.



Vrbanjac emphasized that, by the decision of the Management Board of HO "Merhamet" MDD, the aid collection campaign for the population of Gaza, which originally lasted until January 16th of this year, has been extended for another three months. So far, "Merhamet" has provided aid to the population of Gaza worth over 900,000 KM.

Vrbanjac reminded that "Merhamet", in cooperation with its Turkish partner organization IHH, has been helping those in need in Gaza since the beginning of the hostilities.

- We started with emergency packages, and then with daily meal preparation for the population in that area, as well as for the sick and wounded in the local hospitals. Meals are prepared in the improvised kitchens of the IHH organization on the ground.

Incidentally, "Merhamet" and IHH also organized meal preparation for the population of Gaza in the past two years, so we have experience in this. This time, in accordance with the expressed needs, we decided to send flour to Gaza, and we succeeded in doing so, despite the unfavorable conditions on the ground – said Vrbanjac.

"Merhamet" will continue to help the population of Gaza, endangered by Israeli military actions, he added. The president of "Merhamet" thanked the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in BiH, companies, educational and other institutions who once again showed solidarity and empathy towards people in need.
