Mennuti: Authorities must accelerate project implementation in Brčko District

(Patria) - "The authorities of Brčko District need to speed up administrative procedures in order to maintain the pace of project implementation and maintain effective cooperation with international partners," said today the first Deputy High Representative and Brčko Supervisor Jonathan Mennuti during a visit to Brčko, where he stayed together with the Head of the EBRD Office in BiH, Manuela Naessl.

Mennuti and Naessl met with the Government of Brčko District to discuss ongoing infrastructure initiatives and steps that need to be urgently taken to reduce delays and ensure progress in the implementation of infrastructure projects.

The main topic of the discussion was the issuance of building permits and other administrative procedures that are crucial for the successful completion of the Brčko Port modernization project. This project is of great importance not only for Brčko but for the entire country. Members of the Government responsible for these procedures committed during the talks with the Supervisor and Ms. Naessl to resolve the open issues in a short period of time.

"I am satisfied with the fact that officials have taken responsibility for performing their duties. Responsibility towards the citizens of Brčko and the District's international partners is of vital importance and must be improved," said the Supervisor.

In addition, the meeting also discussed the potential and prospects of Brčko regarding initiatives for the use of renewable energy sources and improvements in electricity distribution, with the aim of further moving the District towards long-term energy sustainability in the future. It was emphasized that rapid decision-making in these areas is essential for continuing successful cooperation with international partners and accelerating the process of sustainable transition in the energy sector.

In a separate meeting with representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, Supervisor Mennuti further discussed concerning delays and challenges related to the implementation of reforms in the area of good governance, the realization of investment initiatives, as well as responsible budget planning and the fight against corruption.

"Although 2024 is an election year, the authorities of Brčko District must be more efficient in project implementation and speed up administrative procedures in order to avoid unnecessary delays and maintain focus on public administration reform and the fight against corruption.

Sustainable progress is of utmost importance if the authorities are truly committed to fully utilizing the District's potential and ensuring shared prosperity for all citizens of Brčko District," concluded the Supervisor.
