Memić for Patria: On the day of my greatest pain, Sebija Izetbegović threatens to sue me

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Today marks five years since the death of Dženan Memić, a young man whose death has been shrouded in mystery after all these years and two court proceedings that ended with an acquittal. The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo was clear: there is no evidence that a traffic accident occurred on the night of February 8, 2016, in Velika aleja, nor that Dženan Memić sustained injuries in such a manner. 

The young man's father, Muriz Memić, did not want to say much today, but he had to react to the denial issued today by the director of KCUS, Sebija Izetbegović, and Enra Suljić. 

„It is worst for me when they say they empathize with my pain, and precisely on the 15th, when my pain is greatest, they announce a lawsuit for defamation. And why doesn't Sebija Izetbegović answer why she appointed Jasminka Đelilović-Vranić to the third team when she had already testified as an expert witness for Alisa Mutap? Why didn't she appoint someone who had not previously conducted that expert assessment?“, says Memić. 

Memić previously stated that a special investigation would be conducted into how Dženan died at KCUS. He again calls on Izetbegović to face him in front of cameras and says he will „only speak with documents.“  

Izetbegović and Suljić addressed Memić with a letter today:

„Dear Mr. Memić, Deeply respecting your pain over the loss of your child, as parents and as citizens, we support your struggle to find the truth and to have the perpetrators punished through the legal regulations and system in which we believe and for which we ourselves fight, but not in a way that you connect us with events and situations with which we have no connection whatsoever. 
Regarding your appearance on Face Television on February 13, 2021, we demand an urgent retraction in public media for the untruths you presented in your address.

We support all investigative actions and procedures based on facts, but such speculative and insinuating addresses cause harm not only to us but to the entire healthcare, judicial, and security system, especially since this is not your first time. We have previously requested a retraction after your appearances and writings in the media.

For the objective information of the public, we list only some of the facts, which are otherwise available on portals and will not hinder the investigative actions in this proceeding:
Out of a total of three conducted expert assessments, KCUS appointed experts only once, in the third assessment by order of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office (letter 0203-27969) dated July 6, 2016. On July 7, 2016, a team of experts was appointed, consisting of three clinic heads at the time: Prof. Dr. Sandra Vegar Zubović, Prof. Dr. Kemal Dizdarević, and Prof. Dr. Jasminka Đelilović Vranić. They examined CT scans of the head and cervical spine.

On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Jasminka Đelilović-Vranić gave her finding and opinion: „I fully stand by my earlier finding of April 29, 2016, and I am of the opinion that during the specific incident, Alisa Mutap suffered a concussion that was of a severe degree.“

On several occasions, your lawyer and you, in appearances on TV and in public information media, mentioned the names of the experts who participated in the assessments. Your lawyer knows well who conducted the assessments, when, and by whose order.

In the team of experts appointed by the Prosecutor's Office, for the first time, the following were named: Prof. Dr. Abdulah Kučukalić and Prof. Dr. Alma Bravo-Mehmedbašić as psychiatric experts, and Elvedina Dervović as a clinical psychologist.
You claim that Prof. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović changed the medical team, which is an absolute untruth. Prof. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović cannot change the expert assessment team nor does she have such authority. 
Prof. Dr. Abdulah Kučukalić and Prof. Dr. Alma Bravo-Mehmedbašić retired before Prof. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović assumed the position of General Director of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. Prof. Dr. Abdulah Kučukalić and Prof. Dr. Alma Bravo-Mehmedbašić met the conditions for old-age pension on December 21, 2015, while Prof. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović assumed the position of General Director on January 7, 2016.

For the second expert assessment by order of the Prosecutor's Office, the following experts were engaged: Prof. Dr. Jasminka Đelilović-Vranić, Prof. Dr. Azra Alajbegović, and Prim. Dr. Žarko Savić, and they were also not appointed by KCUS.
The availability of the names of experts who participated in the assessments is visible to all portal users, and it is regrettable that you allowed individuals to manipulate your pain, individuals who, by defaming the names of honorable people in public, rather than through their own qualifications and achievements, seek to garner voter sympathy.

Prof. Dr. Enra Mehmedika-Suljić, a specialist neuropsychiatrist, in no way participated in either the treatment or the expert assessment of Alisa Mutap.

In your address, you went so far as to bring our names into the context of the outcome of the treatment of your late son at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. We emphasize that we in no way participated in it, given our specialties—gynecologist and neuropsychiatrist—because your son was brought to KUM and subsequently treated at the Neurosurgery Clinic.

The presentation of these and similar untruths is already the subject of several initiated and won court proceedings for defamation. Therefore, we demand that you present true facts, otherwise we will have to seek satisfaction through legal means.

Such false claims, the presentation of lies, and insinuations harm not only us as individuals but also the Clinical Center as a whole, undermining trust in the judicial system and in our country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated KCUS in an open letter.
