Memić after trial: The mosaic is coming together

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - After today's hearing in the Dženan Memić case at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the father of the murdered young man, Muriz Memić, addressed the media.

He stated that at a previous hearing it was heard that some video recordings were being deleted, and today it was heard that they were seized without a warrant.

"We can only say, the mosaic is coming together, the curtains are getting shorter. And someone will understand when I say the curtains are getting shorter what I meant. This is going its own way, we are satisfied, the people will find out what they were willing to do. Now witnesses are coming, doctors from the Emergency Center and another doctor. The mosaic is mostly coming together," Memić said.

At the next hearing, five witnesses will be heard, including doctors from the Emergency Center.

Ifet Feraget, the lawyer for the Memić family, commented on the illegal seizure of recordings.

"Someone has been trying to prevent the truth from being established from the very beginning. We usually say that justice is being served if we see that justice is being served. However, it has been evident from the beginning that justice is not being served here. If we know that the recordings from the 'Kristal' hotel were destroyed within four days, and that these recordings were seized without any warrant and it has not been determined where these recordings are and what is in the original on the central unit, it is logical to conclude that someone from the beginning wanted the truth not to be established. So, that is a question for the Prosecutor's Office, as we expect an investigation to be opened into the murder of Dženan Memić, and that will be one of the issues to be resolved, where that recording is, given that today we heard from the witness who downloaded it onto a USB stick that he did it and handed over that stick to a member of the MUP of KS," said Feraget.

When asked by journalists if it is common, in the case of witness Vahidin Memić, for people to be contacted in an investigation like Hasan Dupovac did on Saturday evening.

"Certainly not. These are the comments when inspectors tell you that they cannot do anything without a prosecutor. That is true, but it does not mean that someone is underestimating the inspectors, but it means that the one qualified to assess the legality of evidence, specifically the investigation, is led and managed by the prosecutor, because the prosecutor knows how to legally seize video surveillance recordings. Hasan Dupovac told the witness not to worry about anything, that the prosecutor would secure everything later," Feraget stated.

He said that a part of the recordings was later seized legally, but he cannot say the same for the recording from Šerif Konjević's house, which is crucial.

"I spoke about that last time. We have heard several times that there are two cameras at the entrance facing each other. Therefore, the license plate of the van could have been seen on those cameras. Today we heard that the color is unknown, which is very important considering that one witness stated at the Cantonal Court hearing that Ljubo Seferović was driving a blue van. Today we heard from a witness that it could have been a dark green, dark blue, or black van, and that is what is important. Anyone among us, even if not an expert, can conclude that a broken headlight does not reflect light the same way as an unbroken headlight. We heard from a witness that the headlights were not broken, so it is a very interesting question why Hasan Dupovac concluded to check if the headlight on the van was broken. These are very interesting things because all of this happened on 09.02.," Feraget said.

He emphasized that a whole series of questions arise, such as how it is known that it was a Renault Clio if Alisa remembers nothing.

"From the very beginning, it was clear that justice was not being served here," he added.
