Mektić Discusses Judiciary and Corruption in BiH with British Lords

BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić met with a delegation of British Lords and informed them about the security situation in BiH, including terrorism and extremism, to create a true picture of BiH, reports Patria agency.

- All citizens of BiH and those outside know what the problem of extremism and terrorism is, and we are not hiding anything regarding this issue in order to focus on resolving these issues and problems. I will present the situation and I will not agree with some qualifications and messages that have been sent from our environment about the number of radicalized individuals in BiH. We in BiH have not fully completed the referral mechanism model, so we know what threats we are facing in terms of the total number of radicalized individuals.

Mektić reiterated that corruption is the biggest cancer of BiH society and that it is a threat in all social segments and destroys BiH as a state. He drew the attention of the British Lords to the inefficiency of the judicial system in BiH, noting that the UK has been allocating significant financial resources for years to support the development of the judicial system in BiH.

- The quality and quantity of the development of such a judicial system, the weaknesses of the judicial system, especially the HJPC and the appointment of individuals to judicial positions, should be examined, because there are no criteria for appointing individuals to judicial positions. Let them direct the money they invest in a different way, let that money be invested as support and let the results of such support for the BiH judicial system be permanently monitored. The result must be reflected in concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption - stated Mektić.

Mektić said that the BiH Prosecutor's Office works against the system and not in the interest of the citizens.

- The Prosecutor's Office deals with nonsense. They have some arrangements with certain media houses, produce some scandals, open various investigations and spend the people's money on nonsense. Anyone would see that these are absurdities, but they take them seriously because Gordana Tadić sees me as a problem because they have no results and cannot defend themselves, and they think that by opening an investigation they will pressure me to remain silent. But I will not - said the BiH Security Minister.
