Mecca: Incident at the Grand Mosque

A man in his forties attempted to set himself on fire with gasoline in the immediate vicinity of the Kaaba late Monday evening, but was apprehended in time, according to Saudi Arabian police, writes Reuters, reports Patria.  

- His act suggests a mental disorder, according to the police statement.

A video circulating on social media shows the man being subdued by other pilgrims and security guards. Reuters was unable to verify the video.

GulfNews reports that the man was prevented from an "alleged attempt to set fire to the Kaaba in the center of Islam's holiest mosque".  

The attacker was noticed in time by a man who called for help, and together with other people nearby and security guards, they managed to subdue the attacker. An investigation is underway.
