Mehmedović: Resignation is a moral act, not weakness — trust in institutions must be sacred

(Patria) – Regarding current events and the scandal shaking the institutions of the Federation of BiH, the president of the NAPRIJED BiH party, Šemsudin Mehmedović, stated that resignation is a moral act, not weakness, and that anyone who undermines citizens' trust in the state must be held accountable.

“In countries with developed democracies, some things are taken for granted, while in our country, if it's not written down, it's not assumed. Resignation is a moral-political act that expresses one's attitude towards events or phenomena in society — we still need to develop as a society,” Mehmedović stated.

He emphasized that during his long-standing political engagement — whether as a representative in the BiH Parliament or as Minister of Internal Affairs — he always worked in the interest of the state and its institutions.

Speaking about the scandal that has been shaking the public for a long time, Mehmedović said that it erodes trust in the institutions of the Federation of BiH, and it is precisely in these institutions that citizens must have full confidence.

“Therefore, the correspondence between the federal prime minister and the director of the Federal Police Administration should be taken seriously, if its credibility and accuracy are proven. The competent authorities should be allowed to investigate this case professionally and impartially, because any influence on the institutions — in this case, the judicial ones — would only deepen the crisis the country is in,” he pointed out.

He also warned of the possibility that current events could be exploited by those who openly work against the state.

“We must not allow someone like Milorad Dodik, known for disrespecting institutions and blocking everything that benefits the state, to exploit this and present it in a distorted way, justifying it by saying that politicians in the Federation behave the same. This would overshadow everything that is happening in the Republika Srpska entity, which is detrimental to Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Mehmedović warned.

In the end, he stated that names are not important to him, but institutions are: the Government of the FBiH, the MUP, and the FUP, and that all cases should be investigated and sanctioned if there is a basis for it.

“I have never been personal, which is why I call for this, as well as all other cases, to be investigated as soon as possible and adequately sanctioned, if necessary,” Mehmedović concluded.
