Mehmedović on Pelješac Bridge: Behind-the-scenes dealings to the detriment of BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The European Commission is clearly not respecting the principles on which it was founded; no BiH institution has given consent for the construction of the Pelješac Bridge, Šemsudin Mehmedović, SDA MP in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, told N1.

Commenting on the announced construction of the Pelješac Bridge, Mehmedović points out that this is a difficult foreign policy issue.

- In fact, this is the question of all questions, both regarding the attitude of neighbors towards BiH and the relations within BiH, political factors that are satellites of neighboring countries. The European Commission is clearly not respecting the principles on which it was founded; no BiH institution has given consent for the construction of the Pelješac Bridge. Croatia received funds based on false documentation submitted to the EC. Croatia unilaterally took over maritime borders from BiH. On what basis can Croatia build such a substantial project that prevents BiH from any actions and activities that would benefit it in the future.

There are many issues due to the Pelješac Bridge, especially internal BiH relations, when you see a member of the BiH Presidency congratulating the Croatian Prime Minister on the construction of the Pelješac Bridge. Another issue is that we have representatives of the European Union in BiH here, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and High Representative Valentin Inzko, who has a duty to react, and he wisely remains silent. I fear that this is a behind-the-scenes deal to the detriment of BiH. You saw in the Presidency what stance Čović has, what stance Ivanić has. This is 2:1 against BiH - said Mehmedović.

He pointed out that we have a previous stance of the Presidency, we have a stance of the House of Representatives.

- It seems to me that the Council of Ministers has not sufficiently emphasized this problem because they are the executive power. The role of the High Representative should not be neglected either. We should not criticize those who have done little, or could have done better. We should criticize those who work against it or do nothing. If there is nothing controversial about the construction of the Pelješac Bridge, why is there so much opposition from representatives of the Croatian people to even problematize this issue in the Parliament, the Council of Ministers, the Presidency, and ultimately in international courts. If everything is OK, let these gentlemen agree to seek legal protection from the International Court of Justice - added Mehmedović.
