Mehmedović and Tadić at the Mediterranean Assembly Session

Members of the Standing Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Šemsudin Mehmedović and Ognjen Tadić are participating in the work of the 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), which is being held in the Principality of Monaco from Monday, 2 February.

The session, marked by reactions to the events in Paris, is dominated by the topic of more effective fight against terrorism with a clear definition of the term, as well as the issue of population migration from Mediterranean countries.

These issues also prevailed in the welcoming speech of the host of the session, Prince Albert II of Monaco, who emphasized that the Mediterranean is an extremely important region where parliamentarians have a major role in the fight against terrorism and the preservation of human rights. In this regard, Prince Albert II, whom the members of our delegation also met, stressed that PAM should be the main link in devising ways to better understand the present and make strides towards a better future for civilizations and states of the Mediterranean region through multilateral meetings and discussions.

All three standing committees of PAM also met in Monaco, discussing three key issues, the first of which relates to the fight against terrorism with a special role for the Maghreb countries. Within this topic, the consequences of the Arab Spring in these countries, as well as their aspirations for freedom, were also discussed.

The second dominant topic within the discussion of PAM's standing committees is related to the problem of migration, especially in Mediterranean countries, which represent transit countries for migrants. Within this discussion, it was noted with regret that the Mediterranean has become, as it was said, the largest grave of migrants in search of work and a happier future.

The third topic discussed in the committees concerns issues of employment and investment in Mediterranean countries, which, as stated, are basic prerequisites for a more effective fight against terrorism and resolving the issue of migration. Within this topic, possibilities for investment in infrastructure, energy, environmental and similar projects were discussed, mentioning the role of the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Within the 9th Plenary Session of PAM, which ends on Wednesday, 4 February, a new leadership of this international organization that brings together 26 Mediterranean states will be elected.
