Coordination mechanism is too high a price for accepting the EU membership application

The Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDP BiH) welcomes the decision on the positive assessment of BiH's application for membership in the European Union. We are aware that this is another concession from the EU countries, and we are grateful to them for the opportunity, and we hope that this move by the EU will calm the tensions created by the ruling parties with talk of a referendum and the revival of stories about new conflicts, reports the Patria News Agency.

- However, it would be good if this move by the leaders of the IMF coalition was not understood as an EU weakness and an increase in the threshold of tolerance to such an extent that one can enter the EU with all sorts of referendums. That is why we once again call on everyone in BiH to rally around the European path of our country, because it is an opportunity for internal unification and the best way to counter the current policy of division.

Nevertheless, we believe that the catastrophic failures made when accepting the coordination mechanism will only now become apparent. We remind the public once again that the price paid for this is too high, because the coordination mechanism, as accepted, is just a further way to legally block BiH's progress towards the European Union and a model for further disempowering and dismantling our state.

We remind citizens that Macedonia's application was accepted in 2004, and that this country has still not made significant progress in European integration, that Albania waited as long as five years for candidate status, and according to this coordination mechanism, Bosnia and Herzegovina, unfortunately, faces an even longer waiting period.

The coordination mechanism has trampled on all European values and rewarded everyone who has been blocking our country's entry into the EU and NATO for years. We also call through this channel on all key actors within the EU to stop the policy of tacit approval of the trampling of European values in BiH, of which our homeland has been a victim, practically since gaining independence.

The current authorities show daily that they have no vision or idea for the further progress and development of BiH, but only offer us divisions, fear, nationalism, and the plunder of remaining state property. With such authorities, BiH can not only not enter the EU, but it is questionable whether we will have any form of statehood left, which could be brought into the family of European states. The EU means nothing to us if we do not have the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the final accession - it was announced from the SDP.
