Inter-party conflict in the Serb Club over the election of the FBiH Vice President will block the formation of government

 

Delegates of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH elected an incomplete leadership of this house. With the majority of votes, Lidija Bradara (HDZBiH) was elected as the presiding officer, and Jasenko Tufekčić (SDA) as the vice-presiding officer. The Serb Club did not have a proposal for the second vice-presiding officer, writes the Patria News Agency.  

Although it was foreseen by the agenda of last night's session, the election of the President and two Vice Presidents of the Federation of BiH was not voted on, because the Serb Club, due to the inability to reach a political agreement, did not propose a candidate.

As Patria learns, the Serb Club has split into two blocs, one of which proposes Slobodan Šoja (DF) for vice president, while the other, comprising delegates from SDP and SNSD, has its own candidate. Furthermore, the SDP delegates themselves are divided in their opinions.

While some believe that Šoja should be supported, others are of the opinion that the proposal should come from either SDP or SNSD. As things stand, the issue of electing the Vice President of the FBiH from the Serb people could block the election of the new executive government in the Federation of BiH.

In accordance with the Constitution of the FBiH, the President of the Federation, with the consent of the two Vice Presidents, appoints the Government of the Federation after consultations with the Prime Minister or the candidate for that position. The appointment requires confirmation by a majority of votes of the deputies in the House of Representatives of the FBiH.

 The Central Election Commission of BiH pointed out that it is not possible to carry out this election without a candidate from the Serb people.

For the President and Vice President of the FBiH, the Bosniak and Croat clubs proposed Marinko Čavara (HDZBiH) and Melika Mahmutbegović (SDA).
