International Tourist Guide Day to be marked in Sarajevo

In Sarajevo, on February 21, 2017, International Tourist Guide Day will be marked in Sarajevo Canton with a special, organized tour of tourist sites for all citizens and visitors. This will be an opportunity for citizens to get to know their city in a different way, just like any tourist visiting. This year, the Historical Museum of BiH will open its doors for tours of its diverse exhibits, writes Patria.

This is an opportunity to host representatives of various agencies and media, who in their own way contribute to and help promote the tourism potential of Sarajevo Canton.

International Tourist Guide Day was established in 1990 and has been celebrated every year since. On this day, tourist guides are involved in various events, most often leading tours for people with special needs, children, partners from the tourism industry, and all their fellow citizens. Events also include various seminars and lectures for local tourist guides, through which they improve their theoretical knowledge, as well as guiding skills and techniques. All these events are of great importance for the work of tourist guides because they draw the attention of local authorities, citizens, and the media to the quality and significance of this profession. Every year, awareness grows, and the contribution of regional and national authorities increases, both to the profession in general and to the celebration of Tourist Guide Day.

In surrounding countries, it is customary for the mayor to join the event, open the doors of their office, and address citizens and us tourism workers in an appropriate manner.
