International Day of Remembrance for Roma Victims of Porajmos/Holocaust

DONJA GRADINA, (Patria) - Members of the Roma Committee at the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina will lay flowers and pay tribute to innocent Roma victims of Porajmos/Holocaust at the memorial in Donja Gradina today at 12:00 PM, on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust.

The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that after the flower-laying ceremony, a history lesson will also be held.

The International Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust reminds us of one of the greatest crimes in human history, but also aims to promote tolerance and prevent crimes against humanity and anti-Semitism.

The date of August 2 is observed as the International Day of Remembrance for Roma Victims of Porajmos/Holocaust in memory of August 2, 1944, when 2,897 Roma were killed in a single night at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Commemorations and remembrance of this date and event will be held across Europe.

On the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance for Roma Victims of Porajmos, the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina wishes to remind of the difficult days of suffering and pain of the Roma people, with the primary goal that innocent victims are never forgotten.

This day reminds us of all victims of the Nazi regime whose torture and executions were carried out because of their differences, and how some discrimination and inequality can lead to serious consequences, to violence and such crimes, which we should publicly condemn.
