Bosnian writer Abdulah Sidran Among World Intellectuals Calling for Europe's Salvation

(Patria) - In an article published by The Guardian, a group of world-renowned intellectuals warns: "The idea of Europe is still in danger as it is criticized, insulted, and its purpose abandoned from many sides. It is attacked by false prophets who are drunk with anger and rave when given the opportunity to seize the spotlight. Europe is becoming an idea that is disintegrating before our eyes. Disaster will befall us."

This letter was signed by Bernard-Henri Lévy, Milan Kundera, Salman Rushdie, Elfriede Jelinek, Orhan Pamuk, and also Bosnian-Herzegovinian writer Abdulah Sidran.

"Europe is becoming an idea that is disintegrating before our eyes. This is the climate on the eve of the European Parliament elections in May. Unless something changes, unless a new spirit of resistance emerges, these elections will be the most difficult ever. They will bring victory to the shipwrecked. For those who still believe in the legacy of Erasmus, Dante, Goethe, and Comenius, it will be just a shameful defeat. Politics that despises intelligence and culture has won. An explosion of xenophobia and anti-Semitism will emerge. Disaster will befall us."

They called on people to join a new rise and action ahead of the elections that refuses to leave the idea of Europe to the gravediggers.

"We call to once again carry the torch of Europe which, despite all its mistakes, failures, and occasional acts of cowardice, remains a beacon for every free man and woman," these intellectuals stated, among other things, reports NAP.
