Medical Faculty in Sarajevo and Dean Semra Čavaljuga Fined 36,000 KM

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Inspectorate of the Educational Inspection of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of Sarajevo Canton (KUIP) from November 1, 2017 to July 15, 2018 at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo carried out 37 inspection supervisions, of which 23 were targeted and 14 were control inspections, confirmed for the Patria agency from KUIP.

Due to identified irregularities, inspectors issued seven decisions, one conclusion, and issued 12 misdemeanor orders in the amount of 36,000 KM. About ten of them related to the circumstances of the competition for selection into titles. The Faculty also ignored a clear directive from the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton.

Financial sanctions were imposed on the Faculty due to identified irregularities and committed misdemeanors punishable under Articles 172, 173, and 174 of the Law on Higher Education of Sarajevo Canton.

The situation at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo became complicated first with the dismissal of Dean Almira Hadžović-Džuvo in June 2017, which, according to accusations from the Faculty, was orchestrated by the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, headed by Sebija Izetbegović. For only a few months, the Faculty was led by Amela Kulenović, who was suspended by UNSA Rector Rifat Škrijelj in November 2017. Very quickly, Semra Čavaljuga was elected as the new dean, and inspection supervisions became frequent due to numerous illegalities at that Faculty.

From the Teaching and Scientific Council and the teaching process, numerous doctors were excluded at the beginning of the year, including professors, associate professors, and assistant professors. All of them had previously left KCUS, after Izetbegović came to the head of the largest hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The excluded professors and assistant professors filed lawsuits, and it is certain that the greatest damage is suffered by the Faculty of Medicine and the students.

Completely excluded from the teaching process are professors Ismet Gavrankapetanović, Rusmir Mesihović, Faris Gavrankapetanović, as well as teachers in the title of associate professor and assistant professor Reuf Karabeg and Mirsad Kacila, Sanko Pandur, Adnan Hadžimuratović, Zelija Velija-Ašimi, Naser Nabil, and many others.
