Faculty of Mechanical Engineering part of EU-funded KnowHub project

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A press conference will be held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering today on the occasion of the launch of the EU-funded KnowHub project.

According to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the KnowHub project, implemented within the EU's Erasmus+ program, is worth over 900,000 euros and aims to develop innovative capacities at Western Balkan universities. By connecting universities with the economy, innovation and entrepreneurial capacities will be developed, both at the university and in economic entities. Within the project, five centers will be established in the Balkans to support the development of innovative activities. These centers will serve as a link between universities and economic entities by providing knowledge and skills, as well as modern technologies needed by entrepreneurs, especially new knowledge-based companies, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.

The centers will be equipped with technologies for rapid prototyping, as well as lean manufacturing (with optimized and therefore cheapest processes), which are essential tools in ensuring the competitiveness of any company. The centers will also serve as development models for the commercialization of university research. By utilizing knowledge, equipment, and connections with the economy, students will gain significant practical experience and education in line with the needs of the labor market.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Sarajevo is implementing this project as part of the innovation capacity development strategy of the University of Sarajevo. Through the KnowHub project, a new set of innovative, entrepreneurship-oriented training modules will be developed and integrated into existing curricula.

The knowledge transfer partners in this project consortium are the University of Applied Sciences from Austria (FH JOANNEUM), which is the project coordinator, the University of Girona (Spain), and the University of Vaasa (Finland), along with the World University Service (WUS, Austria) and the National Center for the Development of Innovators and Entrepreneurship Learning from Macedonia. From the Western Balkans region, the project includes the University of Sarajevo, the University of Mostar, the University of Montenegro, the European University of Tirana (Albania), and the University of Vlorë (Albania), as well as the INTERA Technology Park from Mostar.

More information about the KnowHub project and its implementation can be found on the project website www.knowhub.eu.
