Mašić: Fra Markešić loved Bosnia and Herzegovina above all

Fra Luka Markešić was one of the rare and genuine people, a Bosnian and Herzegovinian, who loved his homeland above all, said today Damir Mašić, Minister of Education and Science of the Federation of BiH, after the final farewell to this Franciscan at the Sarajevo cemetery Bare, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Fra Luka Markešić, a prominent Franciscan, professor at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo and president of the HNV of BiH, died last Thursday after 11 p.m. in Sarajevo, at the age of 77.

More than 200 people attended his final farewell today, including many public figures from the public life of Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as Šefik Džaferović, Slavko Kukić, Nerzuk Ćurak, Ivan Kordić, Ivica Šarić, Martin Raguž and others.

- The departure of Fra Luka is an irreplaceable loss for our country. It was a true honor and pleasure to know him. May the Bosnian-Herzegovinian soil rest lightly on him – said Mašić.

A commemorative gathering organized by the Croatian National Council and the Monastery of St. Anthony will be held on August 13 in the amphitheater of the Parliament of FBiH, reports NAP.
