Massacre in Nigeria, Boko Haram killed 2,000 people

Around 2,000 people were killed in a massacre committed by members of the Islamist organization Boko Haram in Nigeria. 

A statement from Amnesty International states that this is the deadliest attack in the history of this terrorist organization, and it occurred in the city of Baga, located near the border with Chad, reports the Patria news agency. 

The continuous jihadist attacks lasted from Wednesday to Friday, and one of the local officials, Baba Aba Hasan, emphasized that the victims were mostly children, women, and the elderly, who could not escape the onslaught of the extremists.

“The massacre committed by Boko Haram terrorists is unimaginable. We have given up counting the dead. No one can do it. There are many seriously injured, who have likely died by now,“ said Muhamed Aba Gava, spokesperson for civil defense.

Amnesty International issued a statement stating that according to initial reports, 2,000 people were killed.

“If that number is correct, it means that Boko Haram’s terror has completely escalated,“ believes Daniel Eyre, an AI researcher for Nigeria.

This attack occurred five weeks before the scheduled presidential elections in Nigeria, and three northeastern states have asked the authorities to increase the military presence.

The largest crime previously committed by Boko Haram members occurred on March 14, 2014, when more than 600 people were killed.
