Peace March sets off from Nezuk: Over 10,000 people march to Potočari

Several thousand participants of the Peace March have set off from Nezuk towards Potočari, reports the Patria news agency.

A column of buses, vehicles and vans is coming from the direction of Sarajevo and Tuzla. This year's Peace March is expected to be the largest ever held, with almost every town in Bosnia and Herzegovina having its representative.

Many Srebrenica residents from the USA and EU countries have also arrived to take part in this event. According to Hamdija Fejzić, President of the Subcommittee for the Organisation of the Peace March, no incidents or negative behaviour by participants have been recorded so far.

He explained that everything is proceeding without problems, and said that from Nezuk “more than 10,000 participants have set off, who will cover a distance of over 100 kilometres from Nezuk to Potočari”.

Along the route, Peace March participants will stop at the memorial to Ejub Golić, a Srebrenica commander and fighter, where they will pay their respects by reciting the Fatiha.

Fejzić called on all those taking part in the 2015 Peace March this year to give their “contribution and support with the aim that the genocide is never forgotten, and to adhere to the code of conduct so that everything passes in the best order and without problems”.

The organisers continue to appeal to all participants to adhere to the code of conduct on the way to Potočari. Several teams from the Red Cross of Bosnia and Herzegovina, firefighting and emergency medical teams are accompanying all participants.

The following notes apply for this year's Peace March:

- Only accredited persons may join the march

- Participants joining the march later must report to the group leader for accreditation

- It is mandatory to follow the team leader's instructions in all situations and on all matters

- Strictly adhere to the planned, marked route

- Maintain visual contact with group members

- Seek medical assistance only from accredited medical teams

- Rest and any breaks should be taken as decided by the team leader

- Attendance at overnight stops is mandatory

- Carrying unrecognised flags is prohibited

- Carrying offensive signs and shouting offensive slogans is prohibited

- At overnight stops, attendance at roll call is mandatory

- In case of adverse weather conditions, switch off all radio devices and mobile phones

- Littering outside designated areas is prohibited

- Respect warning signs for unexploded ordnance: BEWARE MINES!

- The use of alcoholic beverages of any kind is strictly prohibited

- Be aware of the risk of fire when using lighters or smoking cigarettes

- Any movement at night is prohibited, except at designated stops

- Report any possible incident to the team leader and follow their instructions

- Behave with dignity and discipline in every situation

- Participants wishing to leave the march must report to the group leader

- Non-compliance with this code of conduct may result in exclusion

As announced, Bosnia and Herzegovina national team representative and Stuttgart striker Vedad Ibišević financed the organisation of last night's iftar for Peace March participants.

Incidentally, at eight o'clock this morning, with the participation of 250 cyclists and 30 marathon runners, the 11th Bihać - Srebrenica marathon began.

On the first day, cyclists head towards Jajce, with their ride made more difficult by the high temperatures forecast for today. Already tomorrow, 9 July in the morning, a column of about 300 cyclists will continue their journey towards Srebrenica. Their first stop will be in Sarajevo at the Lav cemetery, where they will pay tribute to the fallen.
