Marković: We are no longer sheep that authorities can manipulate

BELGRADE, (Patria) - People do not want to live in countries like the former Yugoslavia, because the psychosis and psychotic state have reached such a point that people are simply fleeing from them," said the famous Serbian director Goran Marković.

"They are not leaving to seek a better livelihood, but they want to live in normal countries, to raise their children normally. Here in the former Yugoslav countries, people live in a terrible situation that is completely abnormal, and many people do not want to raise children here. The white plague is secondary, the primary reason is the lack of conditions for a normal life," he stated as a guest on N1 television.

Marković believes that people here will live better if they change the conditions of life.

"The events that marked the year, or rather its latter part, are the protests; they have illuminated the year in a different light," said director Goran Marković.

We are no longer sheep that people in power can manipulate as they please, Marković added.

He said that "a number of people have emerged who no longer want to tolerate this.".

"The protests have convinced me that there is a civilizational core that will resist the unbearable state we are in," said Marković.

He also added that "counting the participants of the protests in Belgrade shows the weakness and fear of the authorities.".

"Even if there were fifty people - it is important and it is news. Someone would have to listen to them. The authorities' reaction indicates that they are fragile. The tower of absolute control in society that they have built is interesting; it is a totalitarian procedure already seen, but it has also been seen that when you pull out one card, that tower begins to shake. And when one thing falls, it shows that everything can be torn down, and they are afraid that this one card will not be pulled out," he states.

Marković said that the phenomenon of rebellion has fascinated him his whole life.

"Vladimir Mayakovsky has a wonderful depiction of ten points that need to be met for people to rebel, and we are fulfilling all ten points," he says.

He attended, as he says, many rebellions, and this is the first one where cartoonists are at the forefront.

"They showed that a personal act of rebellion is sometimes more important than the masses. All the characters from their cartoons open the newspaper trembling, wondering what will happen today, which is important because humor is an expression of serious things and always refers to something very important, and they manage to summarize everything in one picture and provoke laughter, and that laughter is an eruption of something we all have," said Goran Marković.
