Marić for NAP: Why Bosnian politicians do not resign after their party's electoral failure

The President of SDP in Croatia, Zoran Milanović, resigned after his party failed to win a majority in the Croatian Parliament in the early elections on September 11.

Several months earlier, the then-president of HDZ, Tomislav Karamarko, also resigned after he could not form a government. At the same time, his wife and he found themselves at the center of a financial scandal, as Croatian media suspected that the lobbyist for Hungarian MOL, Josip Petrović, was paying Karamarko's company Saboli.

Analyst Ivana Marić explains for Patria that every election in Croatia produces one "victim," a resignation, which is the correct behavior, and that politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina should start adopting such practices. When voters send you a message that you are no longer the first choice, the president's resignation is expected.

- In our country, party presidents can only offer their resignation under great public pressure, and when the party is destroyed - says Marić.

- SDP in Croatia won a large number of mandates. They cannot be called big losers. But, Milanović still resigned.

Marić attributes the retention of the party president position by Bosnian politicians, even after their party's electoral failure, to their large egos.

And, Marić says, it's far from being without criticism of Croatian politics either. The President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, took a picture of her ballot, even though photographing ballots is contrary to the rules of the electoral process. By doing so, Marić says, the president of the country set a bad example for citizens and showed that she is above the law.

- To whom does the president have to prove who she voted for? - Marić wonders, writes Patria.
