Event 'Defence of BiH-Igman 2018.'

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The traditional, 18th event "Defence of BiH-Igman" will be held over the next two days, organized by the ministries for veterans' affairs of the Federation of BiH and Sarajevo Canton, as well as the Memorial Fund of Sarajevo Canton.

The President of the Organizing Committee of the event and the federal minister for veterans and disabled persons of the defensive-liberation war, Salko Bukvarević, pointed out that the program of this year's event includes a series of activities and events through which we remember and pay tribute to the martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Army and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of BiH.

The Vice-President of the Organizing Committee and the minister for veterans' affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Muharem Fišo, said that the goal is to testify to the honorable struggle of the members of the Army and the Ministry of Interior who defended and protected BiH.

According to the organizers' announcements, the marking of the event will begin tomorrow at 10:00 AM at the Kovači Memorial Center, where a history lesson will be held. Afterwards, a laying of flowers is planned at the memorials to fallen soldiers, as well as to the civilians of Sarajevo at Markale, the Eternal Flame, the Suada and Olga Bridge, and the Memorial to the murdered children of besieged Sarajevo.

A religious program for the fallen is also announced, including mevlud and zikr, as well as the serving of a memorial service and requiem mass.

As part of the program content on the second day of the event, parades of war flags under the name "Youth on the Path of Life" as well as war veterans of the Army and the Ministry of Interior, and sports games are planned.

The central part of the event will be held on Friday, August 3rd, at Veliko Polje on Igman, where, along with the usual program activities, according to the announcements of the Vice-President of the Organizing Committee and the Director of the Memorial Fund, Suad Zijadić, the unveiling of the reconstructed memorial to fallen soldiers will also take place.

For residents of Sarajevo Canton who wish to attend the event at Veliko Polje that day, the organizers have provided bus transportation from several points in the city and suburban settlements, as well as a return ride.

The general patron of the event this year is the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegović.
