Mom, don't give me money for a sandwich, let dad have it for medicine and diapers

A refugee from Srebrenica, 44-year-old Esed Hodžić, who lives with his wife Šaha and sons, 15-year-old Sado and 11-year-old Esmir, in the Ilijaš settlement of Ljubinići, is seriously ill, reports the Patria News Agency.

He has two brain tumors and a lung tumor, as well as stomach problems. Esed also had a stroke, which resulted in paralysis of the right side of his body; he is immobile and cannot speak.

In addition to Esed's illness, this unfortunate refugee family is also struggling with extreme poverty. Their regular income is so low that it is not enough even for food and utility costs, let alone for Esed's treatment, diapers, children's education, and other basic needs.

- We have approached many for help, but few are willing to assist. Esed alone needs about 300 KM per month for medicines and diapers. A lot of money is also needed to pay for transportation to appointments in Ilijaš and Sarajevo. He has developed bedsores on his body from lying down. When my younger son Esmir says: "Mom, don't give me money for a sandwich, I'll hide so I don't see other children eating, and give that money to dad for medicine and diapers," I am overcome with deep sadness. I implore all good and humane people from home and abroad to donate money, food, shoes, clothing, firewood, and school supplies to us. Anything is welcome - says Esed's wife, Šaha, with a sad voice.
