Mother Hajra Ćatić buried in Srebrenica

(Patria) - Srebrenica mother Hajra Ćatić was buried today at the Komarčevo cemetery in Srebrenica. The funeral prayer was held in front of the Čaršija mosque, and a commemoration was held before the funeral dedicated to the woman who dedicated her life to searching for missing Srebrenica men, including her son Nino, whose bones she never found.

Ćamil Duraković, former mayor of the municipality of Srebrenica, said at the commemoration that Hajra was one of the quietest mothers, but very strong in her intentions.

"She was a very brave woman. She wasn't loud, even though they had the right to be the loudest in the world. Unfortunately, Hajra had been very weak for several months due to her illness. Everything she did in life was not just for her son, the late Nino, whose bones have not yet been found, but it was a message that was heard around the world, which Hajra carried with her even when she was sick. A great loss, but what we saw today, first and foremost, is that the Association she led remains committed to her ideologies and intentions, and that all of us who are left behind Hajra have a role model on how to fight with dignity for justice that has not yet been served," said Duraković.

Srebrenica mother Munira Subašić said that she passed away to a better world before finding the bones of her child.

"I think it's a worse pain than if she had found her son, if she could have left, to say 'son, I'm here.' Her struggle, which we mothers will continue, is great, and not just hers, but also of other mothers who passed away before her. I am very sorry when a mother passes away without finding bones, I think it is a deeper pain. I, thank God, found two bones and can tell everyone that I had a son, because many enemies of this time and the nineties want us to find as few bones as possible, to tell us that we didn't even have children, and for every missing person, we cannot say that we had them. We say collectively that Serbs are not responsible, but they should collectively be ashamed of everything they did to us, and especially after 26 years, they don't tell us where the bones of our children are so that we mothers can die in peace. Every mother would die more peacefully if she found the bones of her children," said Subašić.
