Mahaluša Receives Ovation in Gothenburg in Front of 550 Spectators

On their Swedish tour, the second city where "mahalalo" took place was Gothenburg. In the Store Teatern, a magnificent belle époque building in the heart of Gothenburg, the biggest Bosnian theatre hit cabaret "Ja, mahaluša" was performed in front of a full house that can accommodate 550 souls, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

This is the first time a Bosnian-Herzegovinian play has come to Gothenburg, which was a real celebration for all our people living in this second-largest city in Sweden, as well as in the surrounding towns.

The enthusiasm generated by the actors Nela Đenisijević as Mahaluša and Nenad Tešić as Mr BiHn, echoed through the theatre. Every acting gag, joke, and line provoked waves of approval and laughter, and among the audience were Swedes who could follow the text via subtitles.

A long applause and standing ovation lasted for 15 minutes, after which the author and producer of the play, Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, addressed the audience and thanked them for the support, emotion, time, and money that the audience set aside to welcome the ensemble in such a magnificent way.

We dedicated this Gothenburg performance to our late writer Ševko Kadrić, who made an undeniable contribution as a writer, translator, and publisher, not only in Bosnian-Herzegovinian but also in Swedish literature and culture – stated Kučuk-Sorguč, after which Mirsad and Fatima Bešović, on behalf of the Spektrum Konstforening Association, presented flowers to actress Đenisijević and author Kučuk-Sorguč.

The gathering continued in one of the halls of the Store Teatern with refreshments, live music, and an exhibition of paintings by Alma Delić.

This is the second of seven performances that the "mahalušes and mahalas" will perform in Sweden. The next one is scheduled for October 24 in Malmö.
